"I've never really done this before." Famous last words. But it's true. I've never blogged before. However after sharing what has taken place in my life over the past 12 months, many people have encouraged me to create one. So here I am.
I guess a good place to start is October 2015. I had been doing contract work for a company in Addison and it was a mess. Working 50, 60 and 70 hours per week. Sometimes until 1am or later. A lot of times on the weekend. And when you have a family, that's no fun.
I was actively looking for another job and talked to one of the recruiters I worked with and they told me about a motorcycle company that had an opening for my technology background and skillset.
A motorcycle company. Are you kidding. For those of you who don't know, I LOVE MOTORCYCLES. I have 2 of them. I go to the motorcycle races in Austin every year.
I interviewed a few times and got the job. However, I should stop right there. During all of my interviews there were tons of red flags about how bad this company was. But I didn't care. It was a motorcycle company. Did I tell you that I love MOTORCYCLES?
So during the 3 months I worked there things progressively went down hill. One of the things I didn't know was that my boss was secretly looking for a job while he was in the process of hiring me.
Bottom line is in January 2016 I was let go. A lot of things played into that however I think the main one is their budget was in massive disarray and they needed to cut expenses. A week or so after that my boss left to take a new job.
So I was unemployed. With my wife and 5 kids.
